At Art + Water, we’re creating a space where anyone can walk in and make art. No experience necessary, no barriers to entry. Kids, families, school groups, neighbors, visitors from the cruise ships next door, passersby on the Embarcadero: all are welcome to drop in for free classes, workshops, and demonstrations, or simply to sit down with materials and draw.

Our program centers the creative process itself. Participants explore curiosity, experimentation, and personal voice through direct engagement with contemporary artists and their ways of working. Our community art space will echo an artist’s studio: large worktables, organized supplies, a comfortable reading area with books and visual inspiration. Free drop-in experiences and themed workshops provide materials, guidance, and imaginative prompts, exploring art-making strategies like world-building, curating, juxtaposing, and mapping.

We want to be another compelling reason to visit San Francisco’s waterfront, supporting local businesses and cultural life while making art-making accessible to everyone. We’re working to establish the waterfront as a welcoming civic space for everyday creativity.
